I know, I know. Sometimes it gets a bit annoying when you hear "RECYCLE, RECYCLE, RECYCLE!" from eco-supporters, but here's the thing; there are so many other topics we should be pushing as well. In addition to pushing the average citizen to do more recycling, we can also encourage big companies to do their part. This article opened my eyes to the many other efforts we should be concerned about for our future.
Starbucks, for example, serves some of their beverages in a non-recyclable container. Yes, a few cities may have fancy recycling centers that can actually process these cups; but where does that leave the rest of us? Putting our cups in the trash. So basically, there are two solutions to this problem. One would be building more fancy new recycling centers all around the country. But the second more realistic option would be for Starbucks to develop a recyclable cup! They could advertise and let their customers know to toss their used cup in a recycling bin, even provide them at the store! The coffee company could also allow you to bring in your own cup or mug. These could be filled then taken home with the consumer, washed, and reused.
Simple acts like these could make such a difference. When a problem is as big as the environmental crisis we are dealing with right now, any effort made is greatly helpful. If only the issue were as important to major companies as their profit for the year.
